Dinner in Penang

On our trip to Penang, we had some really good food, thanks to one food blogger Hojiak. I googled for good Penang food and got a long list of recommended places to eat from various bloggers. Since I didnt have much time to go thru each and every entry, I decided to go with Hojiak's recommendations. A Penangnite who loves food has got to have good taste right?
But first, day 1 dinner was at Long Beach Cafe, just a few blocks away from Lone Pine, where we stayed. Mal was the one who told me months ago that they have the best fried egg with oysters (hor-chien). The biggest oysters he has ever eaten. And the most delicious.
So we went to Long Beach to try out some Penang street food. Mind you, there were so many mat sallehs there.
apple juice, too dilutedfried spring rolls - many people ordered this. It's really good, but Mal didnt like it. It has a lot of 5-spice in it. I love it.
hokkien mee (black noodles) for sunny boy. His favourite noodles. Honestly, the one we have in Klang tastes much better than this.

ikan bakar pari (grilled stingray). Horrible! Just one small piece costs RM15. Cut throat man. And the taste was like.... tasteless.
fried egg with oysters (hor-chien) - Mal's so called favourite. I thought the guy forgot to add in salt, cause it was so bland and watery. Totally a dissapointment. Dunno why Mal can say it's really good ;(
fried kuey teow. Okay.. not too bad.
Day 2 dinner at Starview Restaurant:
We took 1.5 hours to find this place called Starview Restaurant, located along Jalan Burma. We bought a map from our visit in Kek Lok Si Temple. Only to realize on the 3rd day that the map is like 20 years old. On the map, there are roundabouts everywhere. But in reality, all major roads in Georgetown have been changed to one way streets. We were going round and round the same area for 1.5hours. As soon as we were giving up on finding the restaurant, we stopped at the red light. Suddenly we turned to look to our right and there it is, Starview Restaurant! How lucky can we be! The food better be good man.
This restaurant is one of Hojiak's recommendation.

peking duck - we didn't order this. But we were too hungry to care so we took the crackers then only ask the captain if it was ours ;) Tastes great
roast duck with jellyfish. Really good. Sweet and sour sauce, very appetizing
brinjal with crab meat and egg sauce. Very good.
steam buns, I think this is to go with the claypot eel
claypot eel. Fresh eel but too much dark soy sauce
haha sunny boy enjoying the steam bun.

this was taken on our last day, after passing it for the upteenth time.
Overall Starview serves some really good food. Total bill came to RM91.85. Worth it I would say.

Day 4 dinner at Goh Huat Seng Restaurant:
Okay this has got to be the best dinner/meal we had in Penang, thank you again to Hojiak. Mal says (after we returned home to Klang) he doesn't mind driving to Penang to eat here and then drive back after that.
This place was packed when we arrived. Got to queue for about 20minutes to get a table. Time then was already 8.15pm. Ya we got lost again.... but managed to find it in under 40minutes ;)
steamboat here is not per person but per size. Only two sizes, the RM40 or RM50. Ours was the RM40. Very fresh seafood. Home made fishballs.

I've never seen this kind of steamboat thingy before. It uses charcoal and see the little modified fan on the right? So cool. If you want the soup to be boiling, they will bring the fan. If you want to lower down the heat, just turn the fan off.
oh man oh man, and THIS is the BEST thing ever on earth!!! Fresh oyster kerabu. So big and juicy oysters. So tasty. Sweet, sour, refreshing. And only RM13 per plate. Mal was also loving it. And he thought he had the best hor chien at Long Beach Cafe.
I'm salivating already. You will never ever get oysters this big in Klang Valley.
We also ordered a plate of fried egg with oysters to try. And suddenly Mal thought this is the best of all the hor-chien. I didn't like it because it doesnt have the sticky starch that usually comes in hor-chien.
Our bill came to RM66.10. Quite reasonable. Definitely will visit again the next time.

So early in the morning you already make me crave for good Malaysian food. I already told my family and first food I am going to eat once I touch down is Hokkien Mee :)
