Sunny boy was all excited as he wants the salmon fish roe and the chawanmushi. So off we go, planning what to order on our 15minutes drive there.... only to find that renovation works are still going on. Dissapointed but hopeful, I suggested we try one of the many other Japanese restaurants on the block.
"Ryu Men Tei" sounds good. I read from a few bloggers that the food is good and quite reasonable too. Mal wasn't too sure though. "Well you never know until you try right?" I told him.
As soon as we stepped in.... only 3 tables were occupied. The interior looks very old. The staff (chef/cook) at the sushi bar looks like he's from Myanmar or Bangladesh. The lady boss/captain is a Chinese lady who doesn't know what fish roe is.
We sat ourselves at the BBQ table (coz no direct a/c blowing at us). Mal complained "It stinks here". The menu looks like they were 20 years old, ink jet printed and laminated and comb binded.
Nothing looks appetising at all. "It cant' be that bad right?" I told Mal :) So we proceeded with our orders.... 2 sets of meals for us:

Salad - I think I make better salads, but okla edible. Mal thought it was awful.

Chawanmushi/steam egg custard - Very watery. Mal thought it was awful too. Sunny boy couldn't tell the difference so he took a few mouthful.

This is Mal's Bento Set. Fried rice, with gyoza, some stir fry mushrooms, assorted tempura, and some chicken carrot stuff. It was horrible! Taste wise and presentation wise. I know my photo doesn't do much justice to it... but trust me..... everything tasted bad. RM35 for this??

Here's my sushi ramen set. Can I repeat it one more time? Awful!!!! Ramen soup was sooo salty, ramen itself was too soft, and the sushi... well can I say that they're probably a teeny bit better than sushi king? RM31 for this set is just not worth it. I'd expect better quality food.

A side order of soft shell crab rolls - crabs were not crispy and lack that certain crab taste. The sushi rice was just no good to begin with... RM15? Cut throat

This is the worst ever Japanese dining experience we have encountered. Never again... I can't understand how anyone can say their food tastes good. I believe we would have been more satisfied if we ate and spent RM83.50 at Sushi King.
Sunny boy didnt eat much... only some salty ramen, one oily tempura prawn,
and some runny chawanmushi.
If anyone wants give this place a try, go ahead. How bad can it be??
